Barnabas Fund
Find out how you can help with the needs of those in our community—not just at Christmas, but all through the year.
Barnabas means “Son of Encouragement.” Apparently he was known by the apostles as one who had the gift of coming alongside people who were struggling and giving them the boost they needed to get through their difficult situation. His gift of encouragement even took on a sacrificial dimension as he sold his personal property and gave the proceeds to the apostles to distribute to anyone in the community who had need.
CCWC also has a similar fund that is used to help people within our church and in the community who are struggling financially. It is now called, “The Barnabas Fund.” Our vision is to use this fund in a relational, community-based way that will glorify God and meet real needs.
Imagine for a moment that you are spending time with a friend and in the course of the conversation discover they have a need. What an encouragement it would be to that person for you to be able to say, “I can help you!” or “My church can help you! Can I tell someone in my church about this need and get you the help you need?” You would not only be an Encourager to that person but you would also be an Advocate for them. Come talk to one of us on the Outreach Committee and we will get you the resources you need to help that individual or get it directly to them. You are the one looking out for the needs around you and CCWC (your church) is your resource to meet those needs. Anyone can do this… if we have the available resources. What you will have to do:
Determine what the need.
“I need groceries for my family.”
“I need gas to get to work.”
“I don't have the money to pay my
electric bill.” Determine how much they need.
“I need $50 to feed my family until
I get my next pay check.”
“I need $20 to fill my gas tank.”
“To keep my electricity from being turned off, I need $150.”
Determine who is to get the money or resources.
You can deliver $50 worth of
groceries to the family
You can bring them a $20 gas card.
The church can write a $150 check
to AEP.
How Can I Give to the Barnabas Fund?
This fund is not only about giving to others in need. It also gives the church body a way of regularly giving to the poor or those struggling financially— the very thing the Bible calls us to do. “Remember the poor.” Indicate on your check or envelope that you want your gift to go to “The Barnabas Fund” and you will know that your money will go toward a specific need that someone in our congregation has made known to us. |
